Do you have the guts?

As I love talking about all things to do with gut health, I’m really excited to share with you my daily routine to maintain a healthy gut. It’s not rocket science – it’s a realistic way to get your gut to its healthiest and I’m confident you will see the knock-on effects in all areas of your life. As I say – it all starts in the gut!

RECIPE:

I love frittatas – they are easy and quick and you can almost put anything into them, so they are great when emptying the fridge. Many frittatas call for cream, however, I always use goat or sheep's yogurt or goat's kefir. Kefir is easily digested, cleanses the intestines, and provides beneficial bacteria and complete proteins.

LIGHT SUMMER GUT HEALING KEFIR FRITTATA

  • Serves 2
  • 4 stalks of asparagus chopped
  • 4 stalks of kale chopped
  • 1 zucchini chopped
  • ½ cup of green peas
  • ½ bunch of dill
  • 2 x eggs
  • ½ cup of kefir
  • Pinch salt and pepper
  • ½ teaspoon of turmeric

Method

Preheat oven to 180C.
Chop all veggies and placed them into well-greased round baking dish.
Whisk eggs and kefir together with turmeric add pinch of salt and pepper.
Tip the mixture into the baking dish, covering all the veggies.
Bake for 20 mins or until the middle is firm.

My favorite topping for this is smoked salmon, goats chevre cheese and fresh mint. I also like to add some fermented veggies as a side to help get the digestive juices going.

SEASONAL TIP:

Vladia’s daily routine to maintain good gut health…
I start my day with my gut-healing hydrating detox water:
1 tablespoon of Aloe Vera juice
4 slices of cucumber
4 leaves of mint

AND THE SECRET – WHAT IS VLADIA’S DAY LIKE?

I drink this detox water and also take my probiotics – this ensures that I give my gut the best and freshest start to the day. I do eat everything that is in the water – the cucumber and the mint – and I usually make this water in a big bottle so I have some to drink through the day.

I also have a cup of bone broth – It is incredibly nutritious and health boosting, whilst also very easy to make. It enables better gut health, glowing skin, and overall wellness.

A bowl of fresh fruits with goats yoghurt, bee pollen and psyllium husk – this ensures I get my intake of prebiotics and fibre, with a big punch of vitamins.

I love adding fermented veggies as a side dish to my main meals – growing up in Czechoslovakia this is a very traditional way to eat every meal – the ferment helps to get the digestive juices going and increase absorption of nutrients.

I love having different cups of herbal tea throughout the day – peppermint, fennel, rosemary – they are all great herbs to support the digestive system.

For one of my meals I opt for lightly steamed greens and other veggies, and combining them with healthy fats such as avocado, flaxseed oil or organic grass fed butter to ensure increased absorption of nutrients and they are easier to digest too.
